Pillaton WI Meeting Report - October 2010
Our October meeting, following the tradition of the past few years, was a social get together in the form of a Harvest Supper. We all brought along food to share, and the resulting banquet was enjoyed by everyone. Who could resist? Salads, cold meats, pies and quiches, followed by glorious home made puddings… This meeting is always such a lovely time to share holiday memories, chat about village life and renew friendships.
The business meeting was kept brief to allow plenty of time for supper and socializing. A report of the County Meeting at Truro on October 5th was displayed for members to read, and the West Briton Cup for “Rookie Reporters” was presented to Pillaton WI’s press officer, Ann Henderson.
As ever, the committee had highlighted County events that members may enjoy and lists were circulated for those interested to sign up. These included the “4 corner day” at St Breward on November 27th, the Christmas lunches at St Mellion on November 24th and 25th and the County Carol Service at Truro on December 8th.
Our own Christmas craft evening will be on November 15th with Rosemary Long.
During the evening, a beautiful hand stitched quilt was on display on the Village Hall stage. Several of our members had a hand in stitching this work of art, which had been made to raffle in aid of the Live At Home scheme. Anyone interested in more details about quilting or the charity should contact Brenda Bonner.
The next meeting on November 8th will welcome guest speaker Maurice Diaper, whose presentation will be on the subject of Aphasia.
We are a friendly group and welcome new members, so if you would like to come along to see what we do, please join us in Pillaton Village Hall. We meet at 7.30 pm on the second Monday of each month. If you would like to know more about Pillaton WI, please contact me on 351289.
