Changes to Bus Services in the Area - 17th December 2015

Cornwall Council has informed us that:

"Plymouth Citybus will be making a number of changes to bus services from 10th January in East Cornwall. These are mostly minor changes to timings rather than level of service other than in Saltash where some duplication with Stagecoach Service 2 will be removed."

For route 12, our local service from Plymouth to Bude via Callington and Launceston, there is a revised schedule to improve running time and a diversion to take in Stoke Climsland.

New Day for Council Meetings - 19th November 2015

Please be aware that as from December 2015, Parish Council Meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of the month instead of the third Wednesday.

A Trafalgar Dinner, organised by the World War 1 Commemoration Group, was held at the Weary Friar on 30th October to celebrate Nelson's victory 210 years ago. See Trafalgar Dinner for more about this commemorative event.

Ploughing Match at Howton Farm - October 2015

The 40th Annual Ploughing Match organised by the Launceston & Callington Ploughing Association took place at Howton Farm on 4th October. It is believed that this is the first time for 10 years or more that the event has been held in these parts. John Moss, from Howton Farm, is the current President of the Association. As well as the many tractors, there were two horse teams in action. Some photographs of the event can be seen on Ploughing Match at Howton Farm.

"Pillaton and the Great War", performed at the Village Hall on the 17th October, was the successful culmination of an idea that began back in January 2014. This ultimately involved many people from the village and much effort. See Ann Henderson's article Pillaton and the Great War for more about this commemorative event.

Howton Solar Farm Fund - 5th July 2015

Our attention has been drawn to this source of funds for local projects.

Howton Solar Farm Fund supports community projects in the areas of Pillaton, Landrake & St Erney, St Mellion, St Dominick and Saltash. Projects with an educational element or awareness of reducing their carbon footprint may be given priority.

Grants range from £250 - £5,000.

The next deadline is on the 27th July followed by the panel on the 24th August.

Pillaton Church Tractor-House - 18th April 2015

Another successful Skittles League Season has almost come to an end with the Dare Devils narrowly taking the championship by one point from the Hill Billies. See Skittles League section of the Activities page for results and the final standings. There just remains the Presentation Night Dinner at the Village Hall on Saturday 11th April.

See Solar Farm Near Pillaton. It must surely echo the feelings of many of our parishioners and other users of the roads in this area.

Planning Application for a Wind Turbine - 6th March 2015

We have received notice of a planning application submission for a large wind turbine between St. Ive and Blunts. This could be visible to some inhabitants of Pillaton village and parish. See 'The Beacon Wind Turbine' produced by Project Quethiock Parish for more details. Planning application for 2 turbines at Trecorme Barton is also mentioned.

NOTE: Before the above could be published here, we received this 'Beacon Wind Turbine - Update' regarding a temporary withdrawal of the application.

Unlike 2013, when we had the wettest December for the last four years, 2014 gave us the driest one. Overall though, 2013 turned out to be one of the wetter years, in spite of having the 'best' summer for at least 7 years. See Rainfall Figures for more detail.
